Aaron Edward Hotchner, (born 28 June 1920) isan American editor, novelist, playwright and biographer whopartnered with PaulNewman for Newman's Own line of products.[1]
He was born in St. Louis and attended Soldan HighSchool. Hotchner graduated from WashingtonUniversity Law School in 1941, practiced law briefly, thenserved in the Air Force as a military journalist. After his stintin the armed forces, Hotchner met Ernest Hemingway, and the two spentthe next 14 years as close friends. Hotchner is best known forPapa Hemingway, his 1966 biography of ErnestHemingway, whose work he had adapted for plays andtelevision.
He has earned admiration for giving all profits from a number ofventures with actor PaulNewman (including co-authorship of a cookbook, as well asmusical benefits) [2] tosupport the Hole in the Wall Gang Campand other charities.
King of the Hill is A. E.Hotchner's evocative memoir about growing up in St. Louis duringthe GreatDepression. The book is a memoir of his own childhood. It wasmade into a movie in 1993, the screenplay written and directed byStevenSoderbergh.
Hotchner lives in Westport, Connecticut.[1]
