The Updates begin downloading at a snails pace, 40 mb took like 25 minutes. Then after about 2 hours of updates, it says the same error, but for the update. Maybe i just need to download the update, its like 300 plus mb. So i decide to skip that and just download the enitre game from Blizzard. I've just tried 3 times. Ive recently moved house and wont have internet for. Deceptive links to shock sites, malware, etc. But now when i try to play a few days later its giving me an error 'Unable to download game data from blizzards servers. You cannot play offline sc2 when there is a new patch. Aug 20, 2010  Can't install Starcraft 2 which is on a dvd disk, hardware doesn't 'see' any media in the drive. I've also posted this question in the 'hardware and driver' forums. I have a HP Pavilion dv7, with Windows Vista x64 Home. StarCraft II will no longer download upcoming patch data while the game is running. Fixed an issue where players would be unable to change their language if patch data was not 100% downloaded via the game launcher. Fixed several issues causing the game to turn unresponsive when pausing and leaving the game in various states. Troubleshooting for problems installing or patching the Starcraft II game. Unable to Install or Patch StarCraft II. Can’t download data or update game files. For Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty on the PC, a GameFAQs message board topic titled 'Starcraft 2 installation issues'.

I live in Argentina, but I love to get all my stuff (be it games, tv series, movies, etc) in English.

Battle.net will only let me select one region, which by default is Latin America, that has only Spanish and Portuguese (not to mention that I only get to play with users in the same region).

What is the logic behind this? Is there a way to play in any region and in any language? (legally of course)

I sent an e-mail to blizzard support, this is what they answered:

Quality and customer service are the highest priorities for Blizzard Entertainment. Because we cannot guarantee a positive gaming experience for users connecting to servers outside the supported region, we do not support use outside of the designated region. You can change which region you are purchasing for by clicking the (change) link next to the region. I recommend that, if possible, you acquire a localized version of the game for a more positive gaming experience.

In other words, players in one region of the world will not be able to play on alternate regions at this time. This is something that we will continue to investigate as a possibility for the future, however, if you have purchased a version of StarCraft II from outside of your home region we recommend that you return it and purchase the localized version instead.

Please also keep in mind that you will not be able to access your account if you are using a different regional game version (other than your home regions version). For example, you will be unable to connect to the North American realms if using a Chinese, Korean, European, or Taiwanese version of the game.

We recommend that you continue to visit http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/ for the latest announcements and updates on this and other StarCraft II features.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please reply to this email. If you would rather speak with a representative directly, please contact Account & Technical Services. Our contact information can be found at http://blizzard.com/support/article/cs.

The short answer is because Starcraft 2 is region-locked, like most videos, games, and game consoles.

The easiest way to circumvent this region locking is to simply purchase another copy of the game from the region you're seeking to join.

The patient route is to wait until Blizzard gets around to implementing cross-region battle.net.

Edit: Too bad you don't live in Australia: http://www.kotaku.com.au/2010/07/starcraft-ii-will-not-be-region-locked-in-australia/

The another reason is maybe because of different pricing policy made by Blizzard. For example unlimited euro version costs 60 euro, while russian one is twice chipper. Maybe somebody will be unpleased that he had to pay more then another for the same server.

There might be a legitimate concern over latency. I know the Internet is pretty international, but the simple fact is if I'm in Alberta, my average latency relative to someone in Texas will generally be shorter than my latency relative to someone in South Africa.

The reasons invoked by Activision are absolute garbage. In SC1 we could simply reconnect to a different server OF YOUR CHOICE. The real reason is that your account is tied to a specific server. If you have a bro/sis, you need another account and you need to buy another copy. It all boils down to milking your fanbase for more money.

Why is StarCraft 2 divided by regions?

Blizzard/Activision decided so and for the moment, you cannot do anything about it.

I love to get all my stuff [...] in English

You could try to persuade Blizzard/Activision to add the English language to your region. It might actually be easier than opening the regions since the English version is already available in other regions.

I bought Starcraft 2 in France and got a French version, but I was able to download an English version from the European Battle.Net server.

Default StarCraft II folder[edit]

There are also shortcuts in the StarCraft II folder that are named as account character names that you've already logged into from that computer, that link directly to that account's folder. This is handy for quick access to replays.
Local files are stored under %USERPROFILE%DocumentsStarCraft IIAccounts - This folder contains:
  • Variables.txt - Stores several of your personal settings
  • Hotkey folder - Contains a file for each set of custom hotkeys you may have created up
  • Another folder that contains replays, saved games, screenshots and other locally saved data
The game is typically installed under C:Program Files (x86)StarCraft II, where you can find:
  • StarCraft II Editor
  • StarCraft II Public Test - only used when a patch is in public testing
  • Under the Support folder, the Repair.exe tool that will repair file corruption - try this before reinstalling, it may save time
  • Other folders containing the game files, crash logs, and so on.

Issues fixed[edit]

Starcraft 2 Unable To Download Game Data Site For Pc

Unable to download game data from Blizzard's servers[edit]

Disable Windows' firewall[citation needed]
Other firewalls may also block connection, including McAfee, Eset Nod 32 Antivirus & Smart Security and Norton Enterprise, disable or whitelist the whole installation folder for Starcraft to bypass

Jumping/jittery/lost mouse cursor (OS X)[edit]

There are a ton of threads that boil down to it being a problem with mouse acceleration screwing up when there is a high CPU load. The problem with turning mouse acceleration off is that StarCraft will turn it back on, even if you disable the option for OS mouse control override.

The solution is a program available here. This program turns off mouse acceleration in StarCraft II after the game boots.

Trouble installing game[edit]

If you receive an error similar to 'The file <name of file> could not be written', follow this guide.

Run as administrator[3]

1) Right click the installer and choose Run as administrator (skip this step if using Windows XP).

2) Choose the installation options.

3) Once it begins installing, minimize the installer until the installation is completed.

Language Pack Issues[edit]

Language Pack Issues[citation needed]

If upon logging into Battle.net you receive the error dialogue 'You need an authorized language pack from blizzard entertainment to use this language' use the following instructions to modify variables.txt.

1) Locate variables.txt within your StarCraft II folder (specifically the one containing your accounts, replays and saves which is distinct from the folder of the same name containing the game installation).

The default in Windows is %USERPROFILE%DocumentsStarCraft II

2) Open variables.txt in a text editor and locate the following lines (use control + f to search); localeidassets= and localeiddata=

In each of those lines insert your language code after the equals sign as follows:

Example: If you have the SEA version of the game:

localeidassets=enSG

localeiddata=enSG

3) Save the file and start the game to test.

If this does not fix the issue close the game then create a back up of the variables.txt file before deleting it.

Restart the game and attempt to login, this will automatically create a new variables.txt file and often fixes the issue although this method may require you to reset any customizations you have made to graphic, audio or control settings (your hotkeys are stored separately and are safe). If you need to reference your previous settings you can use the backup you made of variables.txt.

Deletion of the variables.txt file and re-creation should also resolve any issues with Region Limited licenses that have recently upgraded to Region Unlimited licenses.

Non-Steam Game Overlay[edit]

  • Some people have noted issues using StarCraft II with Steam, saying that upon leaving the Steam overlay, any commands issued would become waypointed instead of directly done and the game would act as if the Shift key was being held down.
Starcraft 2 Unable To Download Game Data Site

This has been found to be as a result of the default Steam shortcut to enter the overlay - Shift + Tab, which makes StarCraft II assume the shift key is being held down. When the overlay is exited, the game does not note the lifting of the shift key, and assumes that the shift key is still being held, thus creating this issue. This can be fixed by changing the Steam shortcut to another key/key combination, such as Insert, Home or Insert+Home.

Alternative Non-Steam Game Overlay[edit]

  3. Add selected program
